The Annual Sunshine State Book Festival is on – online, that is! Now through the end of June, the local Gainesville fest celebrating Sunshine State authors, learning and literacy will be accessible from the comfort of home. In honor of the festival, we’re taking a look at some simple ways to make reading even more fun for the whole family. Take a look.
Find the perfect place to read
The Gainesville area is home to plenty of beautiful outdoor spaces to curl up with a good book – from your own backyard to the stunning, lush environs of Devil Millhopper Geological State Park (the perfect place for a reading picnic), to the inspiring vistas at Paynes Prairie Preserve, the options are endless.
Have a home reading party
You may not be able to visit this year’s festival in person, but who says it has to be a solitary experience? You can make plans to attend virtually with friends across the state (why not hop onto a video chat as you discuss the great authors you find along the way?), or make it a fun family experience by accessing the festival together at home. You can watch presentations from local authors and even find fun activities for the whole family. Enjoy some delicious Peach Valley Gainesville catering or takeout to fuel the literary fun ahead!
Enjoy brain-boosting food…
Speaking of flavorful fuel…
Now is a great time to pack your plate with brain-boosting goodness in the form of fish like salmon, which is rich in omega-3 fatty acids your brain loves. Try it grilled or blackened on your favorite Peach Valley salad! Another popular pick on our menu is blueberries, whether in our Summer Salad or RW&B Fruit Bowl. This vibrant superfood has antioxidants that promote brain health and overall wellbeing.
… or pick a book-inspired lineup of flavorful favorites
Another fun route is to try foods inspired by books you love! Enjoy a thematic tie-in, like our Very Berry Stuffed French Toast as you read about one woman’s journey of falling in love with French cooking (Julie and Julia), or a slice of Housemade Peach Cobbler as you and your child read James and the Giant Peach, eating and reading go hand in hand in our book.
There’s no shortage of ways to embrace your inner bookworm this spring and summer! We hope these ideas help you dig in to a delicious literary adventure.
