5 Ideas for Fourth of July Family Fun

Planning for Fourth of July family fun? The big day might look a little different this year, but there are still plenty of ways for Gainesville families to enjoy the day from home. Read on for some fun, delicious ideas to try.

Have a Fourth of July backyard picnic

Picnicking is the quintessential summer activity, so what better time to throw one in your own backyard? Bring out the classic checked blanket and a basket filled with your favorite Peach Valley goodies—from fresh fruit, to shareable favorites like our Orchard Fresh Apple Fritters to brunch-time classics like Pancakes, Chicken & Waffles and more, we’ve got what you need to bring home for a truly memorable Fourth of July meal.

Your backyard may just be steps away from your home, but imagine you’re visiting your favorite park or another “getaway” spot! Bring books to read and lounge around with, an outdoor speaker for relaxing music, cards and frisbees to play and anything else you may need.

Try a new recipe

You can also put your own spin of Fourth of July flavors! Pair your Peach Valley meal with homemade treats like grilled watermelon, or take the fruits from your Peach Valley RWB Bowl and assemble them in skewer form for easy enjoyment. This is also a great day to try delicious desserts in a jar, such as chocolatey mud pies, red, white and blue parfaits and more.

Learn about local history…

As one of the Sunshine State’s most historical cities, Gainesville has a rich past to explore on this day that’s all about Americana. Take a virtual trip to the Florida Museum of Natural History online, or learn about local landmarks like the Historic Thomas Center, Living History Farm and more.

… and gator history, too

Here in Gainesville, we love our gators. In honor of this national holiday, you can also share this fun presidential fact (or, potentially, legend) with the family: Did you know that John Quincy Adams, sixth President of the United States, allegedly kept an alligator as a pet in the East Room?

Embrace your crafty side

We may be missing our traditional Fourth of July fireworks gatherings this year, but you can bring colorful fireworks to your very own backyard with vibrant arts and crafts! Splatter red and blue paint on a white canvas for a fun, messy craft the kids will love (just be sure to change out of your good clothes first!). Or use chenille sticks to assemble one-of-a-kind fireworks to display around your home on the Fourth.

We hope that these ideas help make your Fourth of July family day one to remember! And as always, Peach Valley Café Gainesville is here to help provide the flavors you need to fuel the adventure ahead. Simply order online and enjoy.
